Updated version of Admin Console (Replicated)

By Sander posted 05-04-2016 17:19

Our vendor Replicated has made a new version available of the Admin Console, that resolves some issues when making (large) snapshots. Instructions to update are in the Help, e.g. this page

After installing this update you would expect to see the following versions:
  • Replicated 1.2.115 (updated), Replicated UI 1.2.68 (unchanged) (found under Support)
  • Replicated agent 1.2.46 (unchanged) (found under Hosts)
This information has also been updated in the list of supported software. The latest version of Jama is still 8.0.2 (at the time of writing this). The above does not affect the version number of Jama.

Thanks, Sander. It turns out that the subscription manager wasn't the problem; it was the fact that the replicated repo previously added during installation had been removed by puppet (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puppet_%28software%29).

Our IT organization uses puppet to centrally manage the RHEL machines they support, and one of the things they have it configured to do is periodically overwrite local repo configurations with "approved" versions -- ensuring machines are generally only auto-updating software from approved locations. Since the replicated repo wasn't on any sort of exceptions list, it was wiped out by puppet.

After examining the replicated.com installation script to see what repo definitions it adds, and re-adding them manually, the update of the admin console went off without a hitch.

We'll work with our IT folks to make sure the replicated repo gets left intact for future updates.

It would have possibly been more practical to start with CentOS then, instead of Red Hat. It's mostly the same, but without the subscription management. If that is not an option, you should be able to pull updates from CentOS repositories, instead of the subscription-managed Red Hat repositories. Google may be your friend, here, but this seems a useful list of instructions. We haven't tested this specific list of instructions, nor can we do much for you in this area except for these general suggestions.

Are there additional instructions on how to update if using a Red Hat system which is not registered with RHSM?

# sudo yum makecache && sudo yum update replicated replicated-ui replicated-agent replicated-updater
