The quick guide to installing Jama 8

If you want to do a fresh install of Jama 8.x or you are upgrading from an older version of Jama, this is your quick guide to get installation started with Jama 8.x. 

First things first, make sure you are fully aware of the Supported Software. Jama 8.x runs on Linux only, which means Windows is no longer supported. We support MySQL and SQL Server only; if you are currently running Jama on Oracle you need to migrate to one of the two databases that are supported.


If you are doing a fresh install of Jama 8:
Pre-requisites: 

• You have your environment set up properly and allocated the correct amount of resources for the size of your organization and are ready to install Jama.
• You also have picked your channel and received the license file.

Follow the steps below: 

1. Start here for installation instructions. 
2. Your mode of installation will be Sample data since you are installing Jama for the first time.
3. Go through all the installation steps. 
4. Once you are done, the installation will be complete

If you are upgrading to Jama 8:
The instructions to upgrade to Jama 8 may vary depending on the environments (OS and database) that Jama is currently running on. Check the table below to find which one of the setups matches yours. Follow the instructions provided below for your specific setup. 


Pre-requisites for all setups: 

• You have your environment set up properly and allocated the correct amount of resources for the size of your organization and are ready to install Jama 8. 
• You have picked your channel and received the license file.
• You should have two license files; one for production and one for a staging environment. We highly recommend to test the upgrade using your production data on a staging environment. Please note that you need to allocate the correct amount of resource on your staging environment too.  

1: Oracle + Windows

1. Take an XML backup of your database using your current installation of Jama.
2. Copy the xml back up to the folder /data/restore/ on Jama 8 host server.
3. Make sure the backup file is readable by all ("-rw-r--r--").
4. Follow the instructions in Migrating Existing Data to move the existing data on the current application server to Jama 8 host server.
5. Start here for installation instructions. 
6. Your mode of installation will be XML file.
7. Go through the installation steps and provide the path to the XML file on Step 10.
8. Depending on the size of the XML file, the time it takes to populate the database may vary. This step may take a while for larger XML files.
9. Follow the rest of the installation steps.

2: Oracle + Linux

1. Take an XML backup of your database using your current installation of Jama.
2. Copy the xml back up to the folder /data/restore/ on Jama 8 host server.
3. Follow the instruction in Migrating Existing Data to move the existing data in your contour_home to /data/contour.
4. Make sure the backup file is readable by all ("-rw-r--r--").
5. Start here for installation instructions. 
6. Your mode of installation will be XML file.
7. Go through the installation steps and provide the path to the XML file on Step 10.
8. Depending on the size of the XML file, the time it takes to populate the database may vary. This step may take a while for larger XML files.

3: MySQL or SQL Server + Windows

1. Follow the instruction in Migrating Existing Data to move the existing data on the current application server to Jama 8 host server.
2. Start here for installation instructions. 
3. Your mode of installation will be Existing Database.
4. Follow the rest of the installation steps. 

4: MySQL or SQL Server + Linux

1. Follow the instruction in Migrating Existing Data to move the existing data in your contour_home to  /data/contour.
2. Start here for installation instructions. 
3. Your mode of installation will be Existing Database.
4. Follow the rest of the installation steps.
