How Jama treats time zone configurations in the UI

Note that the following details apply to Jama versions 2015.5 and prior.

When working in Jama's UI you are able to see the timestamps in the client time zone. For on-premises customers, the server timezone will be whatever your organization has configured, whereas Jama's SaaS servers are configured to UTC. This means the end user will see two different time stamps while working in Jama if their local timezone configuration differs from the server configuration.

When working outside the UI, there are a few circumstances to consider when the time conversion won't be done:

  • When using API calls.
  • Using reporting tools such as BIRT or Velocity.

At the moment you should be aware the we have three outstanding bugs (SOS-BUG-460, SOS-BUG-485, SOS-BUG-866) relating to time zones.

  1. SOS-BUG-460 - Jama hosted servers are configured on UTC time. If a client who is outside of UTC creates an item at a time that is technically a different day than UTC (for example, creating an item at 19:00 PST on a Wednesday is 03:00 UTC on a Thursday), the item will not show up in filter and search results if the date field selected in the UI is different from the date stored on the server.
  2. SOS-BUG-485 - In Jama hosted environments, if a Test Run is executed after 4pm PST, that date appears as the next day in exports. This also happens in the on-premises version if the client is in a different timezone from the server.
  3. SOS-BUG-866 - If the Jama server is configured in different time zone from the local machine, you create a filter that performs a search for dates based on the 'between' criteria. When you view the results of the filter: you will notice some incongruencies in the results, the filter will be applied to the server time zone instead of the local machine.
For example, imagine your server is configured in UTC and your local machine is configured in PT. In a filter configured to show items with a date between2015/04/01 and 2015/08/05, only items with dates of 2015/04/02 00:00.00 – 2015/08/04 23:59.59 should appear, however, you will get items from the interval of2015/04/01 16:00.00 – 2015/08/04 15:59.59.
