Automatically open Explorer tree when accessing a target destination in the Project via URL

Goal: Allow a URL for a given item, component, folder or set to open with the Explorer open/synced to that element. This way the user doesn’t have to go through the “Find Me” process to find where they are in the Explorer.

Rationale: Allows a better UX for sharing specific project locations with others (in emails, comments, etc.). For example, I want a Marketing specialist to go to a certain location in the project (say, a component called “Marketing Requirements”). I want to be able to send them a URL or have them click a link on the dashboard and go directly to that destination and the explorer opens to show where they are in the project structure.

Controls in Jama: Allow a global setting that turns on/off the auto-sync mode. This is similar to online help systems that commonly sync the topic to its location in the explorer navigation.

I think that's a valid point, Dutch, that users might expect to see the location context of an item when they visit it, as they might be accustomed to in help guides or elsewhere. Because the word "sync" has other connotations in Jama (Reuse & Sync), I'm going to alter your title a little bit to reflect that.
I'm sorry this topic makes you sad!
  • Our users also would like context of items to be more apparent in this way.

I too find navigating the Project Explorer to be slow. A direct URL or allowing bookmarks / favourites would be a great way to quickly navigate to and open a specific point in the tree.

Would love to see some kind of bookmark or favorites functionality that would either automatically re-open the Explorer to a specific item location, or just preserve the entire Explorer window and re-open all the folders and items you had expanded. Navigating the Explorer has to be the most tedious part of Jama!

Additionally, if the Explorer tree would open to where I am if I open a upstream or downstream item. Example, working in a URS, opening an FRS to add more at that level, would be helpful to be where that FRS is rather than still in the tree at the URS level.

Agree. The explorer tree should be context specific and should not be static as it is today.
