Review Center - closed review does not have Publish Revision button

  • 1.  Review Center - closed review does not have Publish Revision button

This seems like new and unwanted behavior to me. When a Review is closed, the button to Publish a new Revision disappears and is replaced by the Recover button. We then have to use the Recover button to make the Review active, which replaces the Recover button with the Publish a new Revision button.

This is confusing to users. We are on the cloud server. Does it behave this way for everyone?

    Hi Jamey and Steve,

Thanks for sharing your experiences with this feature. To get a better understanding, in what circumstance(s) would your users be publishing a new revision on a closed review? Learning more about those usage cases would be really helpful here.

    • I created a 100-item document (set) and sent it to 5 people for review in Jama.
    • Six months later, I'm revising the document (set) and modifying 12 items, adding 2 items and deleting 5 items. I now need those 5 people to review the changes, so I publish a revision of the previous review, which:
      • Preserves progress from previous review (reviewers don't have to re-review items that didn't change).
      • Shows new and changed items as needing review.
      • Provides comparison view.
This is very common workflow for us and is part of why we use Jama.

We have almost exactly the same need. However, we also sometimes need to:

    • Change what the review is called
    • Keep the previous review as is for records reasons.
For this, being able to "copy" or clone a review would be useful.

Noted! Are the closed reviews you're seeing the Recover button on ones which have been archived, are they ones which have never been archived, or are does it seem to affect both archived and non-archived closed reviews?

This is occurring on unarchived reviews. I haven't checked archived.

I just want to re-emphasize that we expect to go through multiple cycles in a review, and the functionality to publish a new revision is based on the idea that you would complete one review cycle and then expect to pick up where you left off with a new revision. It therefore makes no sense to hide the "Publish new Revision" until you are completely done with all review cycles.  This should be signaled by finalizing the review and not by ending a review cycle.

Are these the steps to publish a new revision of a closed review?
    1. Recover
    2. Publish new Revision
Will all of the reviewers have to approve again? (I hope not, as there are 300+ items).

    Thanks

    Hi Margaret,

If you were just wanting to recover a closed review, you'd go to that review then click on the Recover button. If a new version of a closed review needs to be done, clicking on the Publish new revision button from the closed review instead would publish a new version of the review that includes any changes made to the original items, and change any options for the review itself.

    Hi,

We are also needing this possibility to publish a new revision of a review.
    The use case:
    - I published a first review of a list of tests I wanted to be validated by my team.
    - They made some comments and suggestions.
    - The review was closed due to its due date.
    - I took the comments into account and modified some of my tests.
    - Now I want to publish a new version with my modification but I am not offered this possibility. (Cf my capture below : see no publish new revision...)

Whereas the help says it is possible, or at least, it does not say it's not possible when the review is closed : https://help.jamasoftware.com/ah/en/reviews-in-jama-connect/moderator-tasks/publish-a-revised-review.html

Is there a way to do it without creating a new review?

    EDIT : I found a bypassing option:
    - When in Review table, select the "Table" display on the right

    - There you have the possibility to edit a review thanks to the button- This way you reopen the review (don't take the message below into account)
    - When you have reopen your review, select it.
    - Then finally "Publish new revision" button is accessible!!!
    Though it's quite complicated...

    Thanks in advance.

I agree that this behavior is very confusing. I have been using Jama for a very long time, and I don't think it worked this way in the early days. We have reviews that are automatically marked as "Completed" by Jama, because the due date has arrived for a given revision. That's all fine. Then when we want to publish a new revision, we have to select Recover (even though the review has not been archived). When recovering, the only option for the review status is "In Progress" and there are dropdowns for the Deadline date and time. That is confusing, because it makes me think that a new notice will immediately go out to reviewers to continue reviewing the previously completed version. That's not what I want to do - I want to publish a new revision.
