Cascading Pick Lists

I've had several occasions where users have wished for cascading lists...that is the values of list B depend on the value selected in list A.  For example, list A is Country with values US or Canada, list B is US States and Canadian Provinces; if user chose US in list A, they would only see US states in list B.

Is this a functionality that Jama has/would consider providing?

Hi Mary. Jama does not have this ability currently. The road map doesn't currently have any changes to item type/pick list configuration, but I personally would love to see this become reality.

We had a request for this on the old community I believe. It is something that repeatedly comes up here as a need.

Yeah, this would be great. We'd use this a lot

We would absolutely utilize this functionality as well, in addition to the ability to dynamically update a pick list based off of another instance of an object type being created. For instance, when a new build report is created (a type we created to represent a new testable version of software), an item would then be added to the "Found in" or "Verified in" pick lists so testers can log defects against the new test version as well as verify integrated defects in that version by selecting an item from the dropdown instead of typing in the version number each time (very error prone).

Furthermore, being able to filter these picklists based on a field(s) would be very helpful as well, so that if a defect was found in 2.0.1 say, and integrated in 2.0.4, that when we verify the fix, only builds 2.0.1 and up would appear in the "Verified in" list. No need to show all the 1.0.x builds since those are old news.

Thanks for the added use case, Jessica. This is becoming a popular topic (which is good!).
  • Any news on this? We are  very interested in having this option. Our use case is interpedently HW-, FPGA-, and SW-versions.

  • Having a specific set of information displayed based on an Items target release would be helpful for us.

I could also see a more complex relationship of having only specific data show up on one item due to another related item's data field. (e.g. requirement with target 1.0.0 will have related test case only show specific items for a data field.)
