Duplicated test plan, tests in cycle are out of order

After duplicating a test plan (with multiple test groups) and creating a test cycle with the duplicated test plan, the test cases are not in the order specified in the test plan.  The test cases seem to be in somewhat random order, with test cases from the various test groups scattered throughout the test cycle list.  I tried ordering the list by test group, but that does not group all of the test cases from each group together - Some get grouped together, but then others are still scattered throughout the list.

I'm not sure of the exact version of Jama our company is using, but the help says the copyright date is 2014.

Eric, you can tell the version of Jama Software you're using by looking at the login page—the build date will be the most accurate thing here. That aside, you're running into a bug, SOS-BUG-358. I'd like to add some details to the bug about the problem this is causing for you. For what reason do the test runs needs to be in an order according to test group?

When I log in, it shows a Welcome tab but it's not showing the build date.

We usually create test groups to test different aspects of one particular feature or software component.  That way, we can do all of the tests for one particular feature/component before we have to switch to another feature/component.  Further, we also sometimes care about the order of test cases within a group for similar reasons - sometimes there are certain scenarios that are easier to test in series when listed together (such as test cases that require being in a different location).  Grouping test cases together and listing them together seems like an efficient way to work through our test cases.  When the test cases are scattered seemingly randomly, we have to jump around in the list to find tests of the same group, so it ends up taking more time to complete the test run.

That makes sense, so thanks for explaining! I'll be sure to add that to the bug description to aid in prioritization.

(Oh, and the version is only visible prior to logging in.)

    Hi Eric,

We wanted to notify you that we have reviewed SOS-DEF-512 (SOS-BUG-358) and have found the bug to not be reproducible in the latest Jama Software versions. If you are still seeing this bug in the latest hosted release or following an upgrade to the latest on-premise version, please let us know.

    Hi,
I seem to be getting this problem on the latest version we are running. I have a feeling it went away for a while and seems to have come back again.. It randomly seems to occur, sometimes when updating already completed tests. Its very frustrating, as our testing is Sequential in some cases, so when the order is upset so is the order of the test runs! The restore order button does not help and even in some cases I have seen it upset the original order when it was fine in the first place.

In an ideal world it would be super useful to have tests ordered by test groups and laid out in the order created in Test cases step of creating a test plan. Either that or when creating the test cycle the ID is sequentially added to each new test?

    Tane:

I am adding this thread to the bug. Can you confirm which version/s of Jama you are experiencing this bug on?

Tane, it would also be a good idea to work with your Named Support Contacts to make a Support ticket with us. Then a Technical Support Engineer can schedule a call with you to screenshare. Seeing how this is something which has been unreproducible in the past and it happens "randomly", it would be good to gather as much information as possible. If you do make a ticket, please make sure to mention and link this thread to it, to complete the circle of information.

    Best,
