1.  Reporting Downstream Rqmts using WORD Templates

Posted 10 days ago
All,
Is anyone using  Mail-Merge WORD templates to generate traceability reports?  I have been able to generate an upstream report, but am not having much luck with the downstream requirements.

Upstream Works fine:

«TemplateStart:Tier3_REQ»

«documentKey»:«name» -«description»

«TableStart:UPSTREAMRELATIONSHIPS»

«documentKey»: «name» -  «description»

«TableEnd:UPSTREAMRELATIONSHIPS»

«TemplateEnd:Tier3_REQ»

No "DOWNSTREAMRELATIONSHIPS" in default template and when I use "RELATIONSHIPS" there are no downstream requirements  listed even when the downstreamrelationship count is >0

«TemplateStart:Tier2_REQ»

«documentKey»:«name» -«description»

#Downstream Requirements: «downstreamRelationshipCount»

«TableStart:RELATIONSHIPS»

«documentKey»:  «name»  - «relationsipType»  Status: «traceStatus»

«description»

«TableEnd:RELATIONSHIPS»

«TemplateEnd:Tier2_REQ»

All,
It appears that I was loosing the mail merge info in my cut and paste  operations (moving from default template into my new template.  I was able to get the downstream requirements from the relationships table once I started with a fresh template and deleted all the other constructs... is there a specific WORD configuration field that needs to be set to prevent the loos of the mail merge info ?  Thanks!

«TableStart:RELATIONSHIPS»

«documentKey» :  «name»    Type( «relationshipType» )

Description:  «description»

 «TableEnd:RELATIONSHIPS»

Hi Larry,

Perhaps try the macro on this page: Word Mailmerge Tips & Tricks | Windows Secrets Lounge under "Convert Text Representations of Fields to Working Fields" to try converting the field codes you pasted into working field codes.
