1.  Word Import - Broken Images in Custom Fields

Hello,

I've been testing out the various methods for importing a requirements document into Jama, and I ran into an issue when testing Word imports that employ table mapping (applies to both "Each table is an item" and "Each table row is an item" table import styles).  It appears that images only import correctly to the Description field. Any images imported into other custom rich-text fields are missing when the items are viewed in Jama, and when the items are exported back to a Word document the images are substituted with the dreaded "red X" placeholder.  I'm working in our production environment and using Firefox v59 / Word 2013.

From reviewing the fields' HTML source, it appears that images imported into a custom field are still given filenames by Jama, but the image tags show incomplete URLs.

Example HTML source snippet from Description field:
<p><img alt="" height="400" src="http://ourdomain.com/jama/attachment/50610/Aspose.Words.dde203c3-78f9-4919-8442-6aab4ece985e.006.jpeg" style="" width="592" /></p>

Example HTML source snippet from custom rich-text field:
<p><img alt="" height="400" src="Aspose.Words.dde203c3-78f9-4919-8442-6aab4ece985e.004.jpeg" width="549" /></p>

From running successive imports and reviewing the image URLs, it looks like the images in the custom fields must not be uploading to Jama's file server since there are no gaps in the folder numbering for the Description field image URLs between imports (i.e., no folders are being created on the file server for the custom field images).

List of image URLs pulled from Description fields of items that were imported twice successively:

I've tested using the same image in multiple cells of the import Word doc as well as using unique images in each cell since it appears that Jama will only upload one copy of duplicate images during an import, but the result is the same for both cases.  This is interesting because when using the same image in each field, the image does get uploaded to Jama's file server correctly (presumably from the copy in the Description field); it's just not linked correctly in the custom field's HTML tag.

It's probably worth noting that if I insert images into the custom rich-text fields directly in the Jama interface, they appear and export correctly.

Is this a known bug?  Is it possible that there's a configuration issue with the custom rich-text fields on our end?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Trent,

I've been doing a bit of defect searching on this behavior. Do you see this issue happening on other browsers as well?

Hi Kimberly,

I just tried the imports on both IE v11.0.9600 as well as Chrome v65.0.3325.  On both browsers, the imports still fail for the custom fields (URL is missing the path, only contains the filename).

As it turns out, I also see that images don't appear correctly even for the Description field in IE (a black "X" box appears instead along with text stating "see attached image: <filename>", which is a bit different from how the images fail to appear in the custom fields where only the black "X" box is shown...no text).  The images in the Description field do still export correctly back into a Word doc.  I'm guessing that this new observation is symptomatic of a separate issue.

Let me know if you need any further info (import doc files, export doc files, screenshots of Jama views in each browser).

Thanks!

Hi Trent,

I have seen this misbehavior before. I normally see it happening only in IE11 or for Airgap instances. It doesn't appear that your organization is using an Airgap version of Jama, but please correct me if I'm wrong. I want to look into this more because there are enough similarities here, notably by inserting images directly into the Jama interface. I think the next best step here is to create a ticket with this issue so our team can better troubleshoot this issue. Will you please also send a couple of screenshots of this behavior and a Support Bundle?

Thank you Trent.

Hi Kimberly,

I'm not sure if we're using an Airgap version of Jama, but I have reached out to our Jama admin who will be submitting a ticket with screenshots and supporting information as you requested.

One other item worth mentioning: as I went through the steps to reproduce the issue and take screenshots today, I noticed another difference in the imported content between the Description field and the other rich-text fields.  Even though the content was identical for each rich-text field in the source Word document (I copy-pasted the entire table cell for the Description content into the table cells for the other rich-text fields), certain elements of text formatting including paragraph breaks and font type/size appear different in the Description field as compared to the other fields.

I wasn't paying much attention to this initially because I'm well aware of the inconsistencies with rich-text formatting in Jama, but it's interesting that the same content imported one way to the Description field and a [consistently] different way to all the other rich-text fields.  Maybe this is related to the image import behavior?

I was going to attach side-by-side screenshots of the source content and imported content with the discrepancies highlighted, but it doesn't seem that the community site will let me insert an image or add an attachment to this post!  I'll include the files in the support ticket (TextFormatting_SourceContent.png and TextFormatting_JamaContent.png).

Thanks,

Hi Trent,

Thank you for coordinating that, and for the extra information. I'll be sure to utilize it during troubleshooting, and make sure you're CC'd on the ticket.
