In my understanding the "clean up categories" is updating the index according to the last category changes in the database. Can you confirm?

How often or when should I perform such clean up?

What is happening if I do not perform such clean up? Are - for instance - the shown categories no more up to date in the categories tab?

• Not all or too many items show up in a category item list view ( if categories display in single item view but not the category list view )
• Counts of categories applied or unapplied seem inaccurate ( in actions like deleting etc )
• The historical categories "version applied" column is not displaying a number
