I'd like to dig deeper into this with you; what behaviour(s) are you experiencing specifically when you're attempting to send a message through the Community?
I'm not sure if that's what Alessandro sees, but when I try to read the unread messages of my profile inbox, I get

I appear to have 4 unread messages, of which I haven't gotten any other notification (e.g. by email) so far. There is also no notification bubble on my profile icon, I have to actively open the profile dropdown.

Thank you both, this is really helpful! I've escalated this issue to our platform partner's engineering team, and will follow up here as soon as I have an update.
To follow up here, we've had a workaround put in place to allow users to access new messages in inboxes, profiles and My Communities while our platform partner fixes the root cause of the issue -- as a result, these areas should be accessible by all users now. If you are still experiencing issues with this, please clear your cache and cookies then try again.
