Relationship Status: it's complicated

We are making some of the relationships in the Medical Device Framework's Relationship Rule Diagram solid*, indicating that at least one relationship of that type is required for each item instance of the endpoint item types. Great, so how do missing relationships manifest?
  • In the List view, assuming the Relationship Status column is enabled, you'll see a red-backed exclamation with an informative tooltip:image
    Strangely, the same red icon is used as the column heading instead of the expected text that appears as a tooltip. [Bug 1] Perhaps someone was thinking the column would always be narrow? If so, then how about auto-iconifying the text when the column gets narrow? [Adornment to Bug 1]
  • In the Reading view, you won't see anything! [Bug 2, which was noted years ago in this forum!]
  • In the item view, the up/downstream icon on the right margin shows red for the offending direction(s):image
So what am I suggesting? Simply that Jama give the Relationship Status UX some love. ??

[*] In case anyone else is wondering how to do that [it's not obvious: Bug 3]: single-click on the relationship's row in the relevant Relationship Rule Configuration table of the Admin > Relationships page, tick the For Coverage checkbox, then click Save.

    This is a very timely idea, would you mind copying this into our Ideation Module here: Ideation?

    This is where many of these ideas live to allow other community members to vote on and comment. I can also update the status there to communicate if an idea is being considered. It just so happens that I am in discovery on separating these icons out to make this analysis more clear. 

    Question for you: once you see that an item you are looking at is "missing downstream" or "orphan item" what are your next actionable steps?
