Search Special Characters
I am having an issue with searching for special characters. I found the previous discussion "Is there a list of characters that cannot be used for searching filtering (SOS-BUG-821 and SOS-BUG-1026)" from 2015 where the article for lucrene searches was posted. However, the result no longer works.
If I search (or filter) [5], I get an error message:
A search error occurred. Response object: InboundJaxrsResponse{context=ClientResponse{method=POST, uri=http://kzte7c2b.or3.searchservice.jama:7500/jamatenant14336/ContourItem/_search, status=400, reason=Bad Request}}
If I search (or filter) [5] as the lucrene documentation states, then the search result is empty, even though I know the text exists.
If I search (or filter) "[5]" then I get a random set of items, from 100 to 1,000 depending on the number in the bracket, with no visible use of the text, indicating that the search is occurring on some field that is not visible to the user.
How can I search (or filter) items that contain [5]

Yes, unfortunately these characters still present a complication in Jama when searching: [ ] / ^ * + ( ) - { }.
Gary, has your company been related to this bug yet? I will double check and make sure it has.

Hi all,
I have the same issue of Gary. How can I search (search with Lucene or advanced filter) for a field containing '[' and/or ']' ? It is more or less the same as for Gary.

Searching with special characters still presents issues. However, using quotes should help. For example, you should be able to try "and/or" and get results. Can you try that and let me know if it helps?Decoteau Wilkerson

Hi Decoteau,
I am simply searching for any substring between angular brackets.
In the search, withot quotes or with simple quotes I get an error.
In the search, with double quotes I get bounch of non expected items with no angular bracket(s). -> defect?

There is a "Parse Error" defect - SOS-DEF-648 - Filters/Search: Having a / or other special characters (punctuation, asterisk, mathematical operators, etc.) in the search query breaks the results.
In addition to that, searching for special characters still presents issues.
Using double quotes ("") has helped us get around that (but using simple ' ' quotes and excluding quotes does not work.)Here is a test I just tried. I know I have an item with <and/or> in the name. I filtered for "<" only = 0 results. Then I tried filtering "<and/or>" and "and/or" and they both worked.

Hi Decoteau,
I need to get all items with the name field containing any substring between angular brackets -> yada yada [yada yada].
How can I get this via search or advanced filter?

It seems like the filters are not working with a search that only contains a special character.
We'd need to see screenshots of both your search and results (and to know if you're searching for Text or Rich Text fields) to fully understand the full scope of what you are seeing.
Note: If you are receiving non-expected items, it may not be incorrect. Due to the broadness of the search, the filter might be returning items due to either the title or content in the item itself (but dropping the special character.)
If you'd like to share screenshots privately, we can move to a Support ticket.Decoteau Wilkerson

Hi Decoteau,
as required, here you can see the screenshots:
Case name: "[*]"
-> get back all items in project -> NOK
Case name: "*[*" AND name: "*]*"
-> get back all items in project -> NOK
case name : "*[E_94611]*"
-> get back 1 item with substring [E_94611] in its name -> OK
I want to get back all items with [any string] in its names.
It seems I have to go for SQL query viz. BIRT report.

Hello,
we are also suffering from this strong limitation of the text search! Basic searching & filtering is essential for Requirements Management in daily business. Is there any update regarding this issue? When will Jama fix it? From our point of view this topic should have high prio at Jama...

From us also: It would be great to have the issue with text search fixed. Since it is also troubling us a lot and causes extremely negative impact on the acceptance for Jama by a certain group of users.0

We appreciate the feedback; while there aren't any updates here, and this is something our Product team is aware of and looking into.

It would really improve Jama user experience if the search would work reliable. Even better would be something like searching by SQL or CQL, if it would be deeply implemented into Jama logic to search for items.
This is one of the biggest limitations our requirements engineers told me about.
