Guides for upgrade from MySQL 5.7 to MySQL 8.0?
We're now on Jama Connect 8.66, previously using a back-end of MySQL 5.7, and wish to now update to MySQL 8. Is there any upgrade guide or guidance from Jama Software we should be aware of?
I ask because I've already noticed three "recommended settings" in the Jama MySQL documentation which the MySQL 8 upgrade checker warns me are not valid in 8.0.29, and will be removed -- which implies to me that the Jama MySQL documentation may be out-of-date.
I'd like to make sure there aren't other "gotchas" that Jama Software may already be aware of in advance of the upgrade, and ensure they're communicated appropriately to customers.

Hi Ryan,
Do you get the same removal warnings if you use the steps outlined in the Jama User Guide for updating and configuring MySQL instead?0 -
Hi, Carly -- that page documents the same "recommended settings" as the page I mentioned (and actually links to the same page I mentioned at its top) -- so in a word, "yes".
i.e. Both pages contain configuration values which are no longer valid in MySQL 8.0.29. The pertinent bits from the MySQL upgrade checker:15) Removed system variables
(I mentioned a third recommended setting in my original message -- On further investigation, it turns out that third setting was actually not one recommended by Jama Software, so I won't bother mentioning it here -- I don't think the two above have been valid since 2017's MySQL 8.0.3, though)
Error: Following system variables that were detected as being used will be
removed. Please update your system to not rely on them before the upgrade.
More information:
https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/8.0/en/added-deprecated-removed.html#optvars-removed
query_cache_size - is set and will be removed
query_cache_type - is set and will be removed
I'm assuming that whoever validated Jama Connect's MySQL 8.0 support must have run into the removal of support for these two variables, and documented it somewhere -- potentially along with anything else that customers should know about upgrading from 5.7 to 8.0. Could this information be provided?

Hi Ryan,
Thanks! We're digging into this and will follow up.0 -
Hi, Carly -- any updates on this ask?
Thanks.Ryan Dill0 -
Hi Ryan,
Apologies for the delay here! I believe both guides are now updated.0 -

Hi Rossi
I'd like to come back to this ticket, since we want to update our dbms from MySQL 5.7 to 8.0 (we are running Jama 8.66.1 and want to upgrade step by step). Unfortunately, none of the links provided in this conversation are working anymore. Have you moved the documentation "Jama User Guide for updating and configuring MySQL" (https://help.jamasoftware.com/ah/en/upgrade-the-application-html/upgrade-and-configure-mysql.html) and "Jama MySQL documentation" (https://help.jamasoftware.com/ah/en/installing-jama-connect/installation-prerequisites/things-to-do-before-installation/use-mysql-for-database-server-html.html) to another space?

Thanks, Carly. In the meanwhile I have found the user guide pdfs for most versions of Jama Connect.
