Hi Dear Jama Support

I am using Jama Data Exchange tool to import from a IBM DOORS Module(SWR) to JAMA.  I know that the Doors module definitely have many out links to a customer requirement Doors module(CSR), but I could not find a way to import the relationships/links from DOORS to Jama. Could you help me with this please ?

What I did is :

  1. export Doors module(SWR) to ReqIF format 1.0
  2. use Jama Data Exchange Tool(v3.5.3) to Import ReqIF file
    1. image
    2. then I try to create a new Mapping and there was nothing under the Relationship Types. While there are something to map for Specification Types, Item Types and Enums.

Note: I found the following info from Jama Data Exchange Tool User Manual, but is not helpful on my situation.

In order to import relationships, you need to export from DOORS the artifacts on both ends of the relationship (since a relationship cannot be created unless the artifacts on both ends of the relationship exist).   Are you including both the SWR and CSR DOORS modules in you ReqIF export package?

    Hi Geoffrey

Yes, you are right. I didn't include both SWR and CSR in the ReqIF.

I just tried to include SWR doors module and CSR doors module and Doors Link module when exporting ReqIF package,  and then use Jama Data Exchange Tool to import them(using Import Only), and it worked.  But I have some further questions:

    • I found it is a must to also include Doors Link module, otherwise no relationship types would be detected by Jama Data Exchange Tool.
    • Let's say I have successfully import SWR and CSR and their links into Jama by using Import Only in Jata data exchange tool. Then later, if there is a new link added in DOORS between SWR and CSR, how could I sync with doors to update/add this new link into Jama ?  I tried to just export the Doors Link module to a ReqIF and import it to Jama, but it didn't work.

First a disclaimer:  I have used ReqIF and DX, but do not consider myself either a ReqIF or DX expert, so please treat my comments as my best guess, and not as facts :-).  The DOORS links module is what actually contains the links (in Jama, called relationships), so it makes sense that they must be included in the ReqIF package to get relationships.   I don't know whether it is ReqIF or DX (or both) which requires you have have both the endpoint artifacts and the links themselves in order for the relationships to be imported, but that does appear to be necessary.   So if you want to update the relationships, it appears you will need to export the SWR, CSR, and Link modules into the ReqIF package.   (In case any of the SWR or CSR artifact attributes have been modified, you probably want to do that anyway).
