Conditional Read-Only Fields

hello, 

Is it possible for certain fields to transition from write -> read-only under certain conditions such as when an item transitions to an "approved" state during a review?  Once in "approved" state, certain fields then become read-only.

    You can make all of the fields of an item read-only through workflow status transitions, but you cannot transition some fields to be read-only while other fields are still writeable.
