Multiple values for Release Field
Hi.
Is there a way to enable multiple values for Release field?
I read and followed Jama Connect User Guide on Releases but was not able to select more than one release value in the Release field of an item.
If the Release field cannot be configured to have multiple release values, how do you manage items-versions that are candidates for multiple release?
Thanks.

Hi Peter,
The release field only allows for one release to be assigned to an item at a time.
Categories provides a method for 'tagging' an item to more than one release - you can create a Category path for each release, and then add items to multiple Category 'release' paths. You can then filter based on Category path to view a list of all items associated with a given release.

Thanks Patrick for the suggestion.
I searched for any training or videos on Jama Categories feature but could not find one. Do you know of some good training material on Categories?
So based on the information found on Jama Connect User Guide, do you think I can create categories for Release 1, Release 2, and so on?
Thanks.1 -

Hi Peter, you can create a category for each release and make that category project specific, limit it to specific projects, or make it visible in all projects. You can also create sub-categories under each release to track minor releases or hot fixes. Since you can apply multiple categories to a single item, you can use these to see each release that a requirement is included in.
There is not a video recording for this specific use case, but if you have a Success Plan with Jama Software you can request a consultation to help set this up.

Hi Peter,
Were you able to set categories up to help you with managing versioned items to designate as candidates for future releases? If you did could you share what worked for you? We are also struggling with this.

Hi Dimitrios,
We are doing a POC for using Categories for tracking multiple releases.
A version of an item may be assigned to one release category and another version may be assigned to a different release category.
One problem is that any user with write access can update categories for the item. Also REST API support for Categories is very limited.
Good luck. Peter0 -
Hi Peter,
Thank you for all your insights. I wish Jama can make a video outlining this use case.
The REST API limitation is really a bummer. Do you know if there are plans to update it?
Warm regards
