How to keep traceability to previous version of items?

Hi Jama Community, I would be interested in your opinion on this question:

What is the best way to keep traceability to previous version of items, knowing that traceability in Jama is not version specific? For instance, imagine having a Project 1 with Specs (V1) and Test Protocol and Report (V1) added as text Item Types (the test is done out of Jama, which is only used to document the test results in a report). Then, Project 2 is created by duplicating Project 1 for doing a Design Change. Keep Project 1 "frozen" (changes in Project 2 should not affect items in Project 1, so Project 2 and Project 1 should not be synchronized). In Project 2, Specifications are then updated to V2. Now, in principle Specs V2 are not covered by Test Protocol V1 and Test Report V1 (originally in Project 1, then duplicated in Project 2), and the test should be repeated. However, let's imagine that the test is still applicable, and a Rationale is written and added to Jama to explain that Specs 2 are still covered by Test Report 1. Would it be still possible to keep track of original Specs (V1) and Test Report (V1) in Project 2, and keep them visible in the Traceability Matrix?
